Why do you have to take X-rays?
X-rays allows for the detection of cavities. It also helps in the evaluation of bone level and oral pathologies. Our office uses digital x-ray, which exposes you to a minimal amount of radiation.

What is a cavity?
Bacteria uses sugar and break it down to acids, which demineralizes tooth structure and causes a cavity. A cavity can be fixed with beautiful tooth colored restorations.

At what age should my child visit the dentist?
We suggest starting at 6 months after the child have their first teeth or when the child is 1 year old. Any dark spots in the child's teeth or concerns about a child's dentition warrants a visit to the dentist.

What are Sealants?
Grooves on the chewing surface of teeth serves as a niche for bacteria and food, which can destroy tooth structure and causes decay. Toothbrush bristles are too large to reach into these grooves. Sealants, a tooth colored plastic coating, are applied to hard-to- reach grooves of permanent teeth to seal out bacteria that cause tooth decay.

What are tooth colored restorations?
In the past, amalgams or silver fillings have been the choice restorations.  But amalgams are unaesthetic and can cause teeth to fracture, due to expansion and contraction over time.  Silver fillings also turns black as they age.  Tooth colored fillings are made from durable plastics and silica called composite resins.  They are similar in color and texture to natural teeth and help create an aesthetic smile.  Tooth colored fillings strengthen teeth and are much preferred by patients today.

What is Periodontal disease?
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, affect the gum and bone.  When bacteria lies in the sulcus of the gums, it secrets toxins that causes the gum to become inflamed resulting in detachment of the gums and bone loss around the teeth.  Plaque can harden into calculus or tartar, which can be removed when cleaned professionally.  Signs of periodontal disease include bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, pus between the teeth and gums, and loose teeth.  The first step in treatment of periodontal disease is a special cleaning referred to as "deep cleaning" or scaling and root planing.  This procedure helps remove plaque and tartar from the root surfaces.

What is the Pro-Select 3 Scaler/Irrigator?
Pro-Select 3 Scaler/Irrigator gently cleans teeth and gums by combining ultrasonics, ultrasonics with medicaments and heated subgingival irrigations.  This state-of-the-art scaler reduces the need for hand instrumentation.  With a light touch from the scaler, the rock-like calculus falls off the tooth easily, leaving the tooth surface smooth and clean.  The use of antimicrobials and antibiotics during and after cleaning improves the health of the periodontal tissues, which hold the teeth in place.  Periodontal tissues include the supporting ligaments, bone, and gum tissues.

What is the ZOOM! Professional Whitening System?
The Zoom! Chairside Whitening System is an advanced tooth whitening procedure that is safe, effective, and fast.  It is ideal for anyone who wants immediate results.  In a little over one hour, the teeth is dramatically whiter.  The procedure begins with a preparation to cover the lips and gums.  The Zoom! clinician then applies the Zoom!
